One of six fan-shaped roundhouses built along the Western Trunk Line (縱貫線) in the steam era, alongside those at Taipei, Hsinchu, Changhua, Kaohsiung, and Kaohsiung Port. This depot served as the southern hub for steam locomotive maintenance from 1902. With the arrival of electric trains Taiwan Railways demolished the eight-stall structure in September 1994, making it the last fan-shaped roundhouse in Taiwan to be torn down.
