Chiayi Theater (嘉義大戲院) - Spectral Codex
Chiayi Theater (嘉義大戲院)

Originally established as Kagi-za (嘉義座), a wooden performance venue, by Takamatsu Toyojiro in March 1909. After the first-generation building burned down in 1927 it was rebuilt in concrete and resumed operations in 1928. Renamed Chiayi Theater after the war and later rebuilt into a commercial high-rise with the theater occupying the 4th to 8th floors. The theater closed in 1993 and has been stuck in limbo ever since.
