Possibly the last surviving historic bridge on Provincial Highway 1 (台一線), this small Shōwa era reinforced-concrete bridge is hidden beneath Bo’ai Overpass (博愛陸橋) on the outer ring road in northern Chiayi City. Built between 1931 and 1944 to span Niuchou Creek (牛稠溪), it was twice spared by construction workers who found it too elegant to demolish, first in 1976 when the overpass was built around it, and again in 2017 when overpass renovations briefly exposed the bridge to sunlight for the first time in decades. As of the mid-2020s it remains shrouded in the darkness of the overpass but can still be seen from the road.
