Zhuzigang Fortifications

Scattered across the farmland of Zhuzigang (竹仔港) in Yong’an are the remains of one of the outer positions defending Okayama Airfield (岡山機場) to the south. Three arched concrete magazines survive, each roughly four meters high and five meters deep, with paired ventilation stacks on the roof. They were built to supply nearby anti-aircraft positions that had no storage space of their own. A bell-shaped two-storey machine gun fort (機銃砲臺) stands further east; a second was demolished around 2011 after the land changed hands. Two taller dual-purpose gun towers (高平兩用槍砲塔) to the east, one of them remembered locally as “five storeys” (五棧仔), were demolished sometime in the mid-2010s but can still be seen on Google Sreet View in history mode. The military relinquished control in the early 1990s and the land reverted to the National Property Administration, and farmers now use the magazines to store tools.
