This is the original site of Okayama-za (岡山座), a large theater established in the late Japanese colonial era. It was appropriated by the Japanese and later nationalized by the KMT. For a while it operated as the Gangshan Township Theater (岡山鎮大戲院), but the original structure was demolished and replaced by the high-rise currently on this site as of the early 2020s. Tongyi Theater was established in 1984 and managed to survive for decades as a second-run theater, finally closing in 2022.
