A late Qing dynasty coastal battery overlooking the southern approach to Magong in Xiyu. Built between 1887 and 1889 under the direction of Penghu garrison commander Wu Honglo (吳宏洛) as part of Governor Liu Mingchuan’s post-Sino-French War push to strengthen defenses, the fort was originally armed with British Armstrong breech-loading guns. The Japanese reconfigured the position as a coastal fortress in 1901, mounting heavier 12 inch cannons, before decommissioning it in 1941. The square earthen rampart, dry moat, vaulted brick barracks, and recessed gun emplacements all survive intact and the site is open to the public.
