A rare example of imperial crown style (帝冠様式) architecture in Penghu, designed by prefectural engineer Sueyasu Takeshi (末安猛) and completed in 1943 as a guesthouse for visiting dignitaries. It was never used for its intended purpose due to the Pacific War. In May 1949, Chiang Kai-shek stayed here for nine days while arranging the withdrawal of Nationalist forces from Shanghai, and it subsequently became his standard lodging when visiting Penghu. An underground wartime command post and escape tunnels were added in the post-war period. Multiple ROC presidents have stayed here, including Chiang Ching-kuo and Lee Teng-hui. Designated a county monument in 1998, it was transferred to county government management in 2000 and opened to the public in 2011.
