太魯閣國家公園

A national park in the northern Central Mountain Range, centred on the marble gorge more than 1,000 meters deep that the Liwu River (立霧溪) has cut through Xiulin, Hualien. It is named after the Truku Indigenous people who live along it. The Japanese colonial government first proclaimed a national park here in 1937, but it was abolished after World War 2. The present park was established in 1986 around the Central Cross-Island Highway (中橫公路), which follows the gorge past the Eternal Spring Shrine and up to Tianxiang (天祥). Landslides from the 2024 Hualien Earthquake closed most of the park, and as of early 2026 only the Lüshui (綠水) area around Cimu Bridge had reopened.
