Remnants of a Japanese colonial era police garrison at approximately 1,340 meters elevation on the left bank of Liwu River (立霧溪) in the mountains above Taroko Gorge. Established after the 1914 Truku War (太魯閣戰爭), the garrison was staffed by police officers administering the nearby Truku community of Slagu Qhuni (西拉歐卡夫尼). The site also housed an Indigenous children’s school (蕃童教育所) and, from around 1930, lodging facilities for travelers on the Hehuan Cross-Ridge Trail. Governor-General Sakuma Samata (佐久間 左馬太) is said to have fallen from a cliff nearby during the 1914 campaign; the remains of a monument erected in his honor can still be found in the undergrowth somewhere around the site.
