Jiji

Jíjí (集集) is a small town in central Nantou served by the Jiji Line. Originally a Bunun settlement, it developed into a camphor trading hub in the late Qing dynasty further developed under Japanese colonial rule; heritage from that era survives at the Jiji Camphor Office. Jiji was the epicenter of the 921 Earthquake in 1999 and much of the town was devastated; the ruins of Wuchang Temple remain preserved where they collapsed.
