萬金聖母聖殿

A Catholic basilica in Wanjin (萬金), Wanluan, Pingtung, laying claim to the title of the oldest surviving church building in Taiwan. Spanish Dominican missionary Fernando Sainz (郭德剛) began preaching here in 1861, and the present church, modelled on Spanish fortress architecture, was consecrated in 1870. In 1984 Pope John Paul II made it the first minor basilica in Taiwan.
