Founed in 1953 by Father Mao Zhenxiang (毛振翔, 1913–1997), a native of Zhejiang Province who fled to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War, this former place of worship is formally known as Beitou Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (北投聖母無原罪天主堂), or simply New Beitou Catholic Church (新北投天主堂). It is located on a hilltop just off Wenquan Road (溫泉路) in Beitou not far from Puji Temple. It has the honor of being the oldest church in the district and the first in Taiwan established by a mainlander in the post-war period. Mao later became vicar of the Archdiocese of Taipei, and the church reportedly received visits from Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling. Mass has not been held here for many years; the building was converted into a community center in the late 2000s and has stood idle since around 2020.
