Qinghe Theater (清河大戲院) was the last of three golden age theaters operating in central Neipu, Pingtung. Established by Zhang Gengxiang (張庚祥), a local doctor, it opened in either 1969 or 1971, right around the time the eponymous Neipu Theater and neighboring Wenhua Theater went out of business. Its later operating history is not well-documented, but it likely succumbed to changing consumer habits by the late 1980s.
This old theater was later converted into a wood vinegar (木醋液) factory with a carwash in the courtyard out front. More recently renewed interest in local history has prompted the owners to occasionally open it for special events, but the interior no longer resembles a movie theater.

Series: Southern Taiwan Ride 2018
Dispatches from a weeklong bicycle trip around southern Taiwan in late 2018. I began the ride in Tainan, crossed into Qishan, headed into the mountainous interior as far as Liugui, did a loop through Pingtung, and finished around Zuoying, visiting the sites of nearly 25 old movie theaters. Many entries remain to be added; this series is far from over.
