Originally named Taito Station (臺東驛) and established as the terminal station of the eponymous railway line on April 20, 1922. It closed on June 1, 2001, after it was replaced by the new Taitung Station to the north. The locomotive depot was designated a Taitung County Historical Building in 2002, and the station was converted to Taitung Railway Art Village (台東鐵道藝術村) in 2003.
