Taitung City (台東市) is the administrative center of Taitung and the most significant settlement along the remote southeastern coast of Taiwan. It is the traditional territory of several Taiwanese Indigenous groups, particularly the Puyuma and Amis, but Chinese settlers began arriving here in the last decades of the Qing dynasty era, and it was extensively developed by the Japanese.
