Completed in 1962, this modernist tax office (台東稅捐處) was designed by Taitung-based architect Lu Ayu (呂阿玉). It was mostly demolished in 2014 but a part of the façade was retained and integrated into the small shop still on this site. The destruction of this historic government building led to public backlash and helped secure the heritage status of some of Lu’s other works in the city.
