Madou Daitianfu Temple (麻豆代天府) - Spectral Codex
Madou Daitianfu Temple (麻豆代天府)

A major wangye temple enshrining the Five Lords (五府千歲) of the Li, Chi, Wu, Zhu, and Fan families. The temple traces its origins to the late Ming dynasty, when a plague god vessel (王船) from Jinjiang’s Fumei Temple (晉江富美宮) drifted into Madou Harbor carrying three idols. The current complex, the second-largest temple by area in Tainan after Nankunshen Daitianfu (南鯤鯓代天府), was rebuilt at this location starting in 1956. The rear grounds feature a 76-meter painted concrete dragon completed in 1979; this houses an amusement park with depictions of both heaven and hell. It hosts one of the five major folk religious festivals of coastal Tainan (南瀛五大香), held every three years.
