Originally established as Miyako-za (宮古座) in 1927. It was one of the most famous theaters in Japanese colonial era Tainan and mainly hosted musical performances. After the war it was nationalized and renamed. The theater was demolished in 1977 and replaced by the Yanping Commercial Building (延平商業大樓) in 1979. This building had another incarnation of Yanping Theater (延平大戲院), and may have also been known as Meihua Theater (梅花戲院) at some point, but it eventually closed down. After a period of disuse in the 2000s and 2010s the building was revitalized in 2018 with the opening of Wonderful Theatre (台南真善美劇院). This, in turn, closed down in 2024.
