Xizhi

Xizhi District (汐止區) is a suburban district of New Taipei City with a population of over 210,000 strategically located between Taipei City and Keelung City. Originally inhabited by the Ketagalan Indigenous people who called the area Kypanas (峯仔峙社), the district’s current name literally means “end of tides”, referring to where the Keelung River’s tidal movement stops. During the Japanese colonial era it was known as Shiodome, and the area developed as an important transportation and trade hub for tea and mountain products from the surrounding hills. Today, Xizhi has transformed from a rural trading settlement into a major technology and business center, hosting the headquarters of several major electronics companies.
