Established in 1922 and completed on this site in 1928, this former junior high school introduced standardized education for Taiwanese students in the Japanese colony. The campus was continually expanded and renovated in the post-war era and it now operates as Tainan First Senior High School (國立臺南第一高級中學). The Romanesque-style main building (校舍本館) and lecture hall (講堂) are recognized for their heritage value. Back in Japanese colonial times this campus was also home to a hōanden (奉安殿).
