An old market building with a distinctive ramp can be found inside Nanmen Street Lane 31 (南門路31巷), an alleyway just off Kaishan Road (開山路). Not much is known about the history of this building except that it operated as a commercial market in the early 1960s and certainly shut down long ago. The second floor was once the office of Tainan Shanchao Compatriots Association (台南市潮汕同鄉會) but the characters have since been stripped from the building. Nowadays the interior is gutted but some of the surrounding residences are still inhabited.
