A residential complex housing teachers across Sanmin Road (三民路) from Zhongxiao Elementary School (忠孝國小) in the heart of Taichung. It was constructed in 1966 along with the nearby Ledao Building (樂道樓) and features calligraphy by Huang Jie (黃杰), who was at that time the chairman of the Taiwan Provincial Government. The first character of the name is an archaic variant of míng (明), meaning “bright”, only rarely encountered in place names around Taiwan. It is unfamiliar enough to have prompted an entire Taiwanese television news segment in the 2010s, in no small part because the left half of the character is jiǒng (囧), which internet slang has long since repurposed to signify embarrassment. It is listed on Google Maps simply as Mingzhi Building (明志樓).
