Completed in 1924, this building served as the district office for the now-defunct Datun District, which encompassed much of the area immediately surrounding Taichung City. This administrative division was dissolved in 1950 and the building was repurposed for use as residential units by Xianguang No. 7 Village (憲光七村). It was registered as a historic building in 2006 and, after many years of neglect, it was restored in 2024, but awaits repurposing as a public venue.
