Situated just off Xindian Old Street (新店老街) in Shitan, Miaoli, this 60 year-old rice mill and granary has been neatly converted into a showroom for local agricultural products and souvenirs. The formal name for the business is Shitan Township Farmers’ Association Community Shop (獅潭鄉農會農村社區小舖), but it is generally known simply as Shinong Shop (獅農小舖). Shitan specialties include dried persimmons (柿餅), grass jelly (仙草), and preserved daikon radish (菜脯), all famously associated with Hakka culture.
The old granary and rice mill from the street.
Although it has a classic appearance it only dates back to the 1960s or so.
Inside the warehouse one will find many local agricultural products.
Although there is seating on the mezzanine level it was not open when I visited.
The adjoining structure is where you’ll find an antique rice mill.

This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there).
