Zhonghe

Zhōnghé (中和) is a densely populated district south of the Xindian River. Together with neighboring Yonghe, from which it was administratively separated in 1958, the two form the “Shuanghe” (雙和) urban area that has largely merged with Taipei. The Nánshìjiǎo (南勢角) area is home to a large Burmese-Chinese community concentrated along Huaxin Street, where Southeast Asian restaurants draw visitors and the annual Thingyan water festival (潑水節) is celebrated each April. The Haishan Shinto Shrine survives in fragmentary form on Yuantong Mountain, near the Yuantong Temple, a Buddhist monastery established in the 1920s.
