An imperial portrait hall (奉安殿) established in 1928; also known as the Sansasho Public School Hōanden. One of only a handful of Hōanden remaining in Taiwan, these purpose-built structures were designed to house the imperial script on education and portraits of the emperor. It is located on the grounds of Sanyi Jianzhong Elementary School (三義建中國民小學) and you may need to visit outside of regular hours.
A stele from an associated enshrinement site (奉安所), dating from a different year, now stands in front of the hōanden. After the war it ended up on the bank of the nearby Shuiwei Creek (水尾溪), where it served as a public washboard until 2007, when someone flipped it over, noticed the inscription, and returned it to the school via the local police.
