Budai Saltworks

An impressive pile of salt kept on display for visitors.

The oldest salt field in Budai, originally established during the Qing dynasty. During the Japanese colonial era it was known as the Budai Islander Saltworks (布袋本島人鹽田) until it was forcibly acquired by Taiwan Salt Manufacturing Co. in 1941. One of the last salt fields still producing in Budai, the site has recently been restored for tourism and is open to the public.

Traces of salt storage facilities can be found here, but the site is largely inaccessible due to subsidence and seawater intrusion.
