Several saltworks were established around Xinwen Village (新塭村) in Budai during the Japanese colonial era. The Monopoly Bureau opened a warehouse here in 1915 and made it a branch outpost in 1920. In the post-war period the salt fields were absorbed by Budai Saltworks as the 9th Production Area (第九生產區) and 10th Production Area (第十生產區), along with the outlying Huweiliao Saltworks.
