A neighbourhood temple in the Houbiliao (後壁寮) settlement of Zhenliao Village (振寮里), Budai. Of particular interest are the temple’s Five Garrisons (五營), small egg-shaped sentry posts placed at the five cardinal directions of the settlement to mark the territory protected by its celestial armies. Each garrison is painted white and inscribed with the surname of the general posted to that direction. This is only one of several settlements in this part of Taiwan maintaining this tradition.
