An extensive funerary complex built in a Chinese Renaissance style in 1965. The site was originally swampland along Liugong Canal (瑠公圳), beyond the urban core of Taipei at that time. Initially established as Taipei Municipal Funeral Home (臺北市立殯儀館), the facility replaced Elysium Funeral Home (極樂殯儀館), a Japanese colonial era institution that became infamous in the early years of the White Terror. Its name was modified after the city government opened a second mortuary complex in Liuzhangli in 1978. The funerals of famous figures such as Yu Youren (于右任) and Teresa Teng (鄧麗君) were held here. Demolition had been a mayoral campaign promise since the 1990s but stalled for years; the complex finally closed and was torn down in 2024, the land slated for temporary parking.
