Taitung Baosang Bathhouse

A public bathhouse in Taitung City dating from the Japanese colonial era, founded by Ou Qingquan (歐清泉), a migrant from Qieding who had grown wealthy supplying tofu to Japanese customers. The family lived on the upper floor while the ground floor was divided by a wooden partition into men’s and women’s baths, each pool holding around twenty bathers. Known locally as Baotang (寶湯), it remained busy into the 1960s, when few households had bathrooms of their own, and was demolished in 2006.
