Taitung’s oldest cinema still standing. Established as Xinshijie Theater (新世界戲院) in the Japanese colonial era with a reported capacity of 1,000. It was converted into a hospital during the war and was renamed sometime thereafter. As the theater industry declined in the 1980s this theater became known for screening pornographic content and hosting striptease shows (牛肉場). It finally went out of business in the 1990s or early 2000s and its fate remains in limbo.
