Established in the late Japanese colonial era as the Nanbanqiu Theater (南半球戲院). After the war it was renamed Quanqiu Theater (全球戲院) and finally Guohua Theater in 1947. It was mainly known for hosting traditional opera and performance. This theater closed around 1987 and was demolished during a road-widening project. Guohua Commercial Building (國花綜合商業大樓) was subsequently built on this site and a theater of the same name opened on the third and fourth floors. It opened along with the rest of the complex in 1984 but went out of business by 2002. In this later phase of activity it was part of a small chain of cinemas with Wanghou Theater (王后戲院). The theater hall was allegedly converted into a billiard hall and arcade but this awaits confirmation.
