A Qing dynasty courtyard residence built in 1843 by Shi Shirong (石時榮), a prominent sugar and rice merchant who served as director of the Three Guilds (府城三郊) and held second-rank official status. The house narrowly avoided demolition on several occasions, including Japanese retaliation for the family’s support of the Republic of Formosa, urban planning during the colonial era, and wartime conversion to air raid shelters; bullet holes from American strafing are still visible. Now occupied by sixth-generation descendant Shi Wanshou (石萬壽), a historian at National Cheng Kung University, who nominated the property for heritage designation in 1997.
