Taichung Donghai Theater (台中東海戲院) - Spectral Codex

Donghai Theater (東海戲院) was a golden age theater in central Taichung established in 1956. It was located immediately behind the Donghai Building (東海大樓), a commercial complex that still exists today. This theater original had a single screen and seating for 1,500 on two levels.

Donghai Theater operated until 1986, after which the theater was demolished and rebuilt as a commercial tower. This tower was also home to a theater, 1+1 Cineplex (1+1影城), also known as Yijiayi Theater (一加一戲院). It did not have a history as long and prosperous as the original; it closed in 2003, right around the time Taiwan was struck by SARS. After many idle years this commercial tower was finally demolished around 2020.
