Initially established on the former site of Chenggong Theater (成功戲院) in 1969. Business was booming throughout the 1970s and the neighboring building (綜合大樓), which replaced the Japanese colonial era Xingqi Commemoration Hall (臺中行啟記念館), was absorbed into the department store in 1980. Several fires in the early 1990s caused heavy damage but the department store was renovated and continued to do business. Only in 2000 did it finally close, leaving only a few shops still open at ground level.
