Established on the former site of the original Taichung Theater in 1980. Initially it was named Beiwu Department Store (北屋百貨), but due to mismanagement the business was soon sold to the newly-formed Longxin Department Store. This, in turn, went out of business in 1998, and the building was taken over by Eslite (誠品股份有限公司), which operated a branch there until 2007. Since then it has been mostly disused, with only a few shops operating on the ground floor or in the basement.
