Xìnyì (信義) encompasses the remote and mountainous southeastern part of Nantou, straddling the Central Mountain Range and Yushan Mountain Range. It is the largest township in the county by area and home to the largest Bunun Indigenous population of any township in Taiwan. Yushan (玉山), the island’s highest peak at 3,952 meters, stands on its southern border, and the historic Batongguan Old Trail (八通關古道) traverses the township’s mountainous interior.
