Built in 1957, the original Sunhai Bridge granted access to the deep interior of Taiwan. A famous scenic spot, it was destroyed in a typhoon in 2004, but soon replaced by the Danda Suspension Bridge (丹大吊橋). This bridge was heavily damaged in 2008, making the span impassable to large vehicular traffic for more than a decade.
