Mingjian

Míngjiān (名間) is a predominantly agricultural township on the western edge of Nantou, formerly known as Nanzi (湳仔), a Hokkien term for swampy ground. It sits on the north bank of the Zhuoshui River (濁水溪) across from Zhushan, with the Baguashan tableland forming its western boundary. Tea is the main crop, particularly around the Songboling (松柏嶺) area. The township was hit hard by the 921 Earthquake of 1999, and the 921 Leaning Tower, a power transmission tower knocked askew by the cataclysm, has been preserved as a memorial.
