Nanzi (楠梓) - Spectral Codex

Nánzǐ (楠梓), formerly Nánzǎikēng (楠仔坑), is the northernmost urban district of Kaohsiung. Its modern identity has been shaped by heavy industry: the Imperial Japanese Navy built its No. 6 Fuel Factory (第六海軍燃料廠) here during World War 2 to refine petroleum from Southeast Asia, and the site became the CPC Kaohsiung Refinery after the war. Clusters of World War 2 era dormitories built for factory workers survive in the surrounding neighborhoods. Banpingshan (半屏山), the half-mountain that dominates the district’s skyline, lost much of its profile to decades of limestone quarrying before operations ceased in the 2000s.
