Built in 1960 to replace the older Jiaobanshan Guesthouse (角板山貴賓館) as Chiang Kai-shek’s retreat in the Fuxing area. In practice CKS still preferred the old guesthouse and would walk between the two. The compound was built on requisitioned Indigenous reserve land and included an underground bunker with escape tunnels and multiple evacuation routes. After CKS’s death, Chiang Ching-kuo continued to visit, writing the essay Meitai Siqin (梅台思親) at the pavilion overlooking the gorge in 1976. The residence was opened to the public in 1995 and is now part of the Jiaobanshan Sculpture Park. The war tunnel was opened to visitors in 2016.
