A Japanese colonial era weather station on a rise in Hsinchu Park (新竹公園), established in 1937 in response to the devastating 1935 Hsinchu-Taichung Earthquake and equipped with seismographs the following year. After the war it continued to be used for its original purpose until 1991, when radio interference prompted a move to Zhubei. Since then it has been recognized for its heritage value and integrated into park facilities.
