A Western-style house on Zhonghua Road Sec. 2 that was home to Hsu Chen-chien (1908–1964), a businessman who served on the city council and ran a freight forwarding company during the Japanese colonial era. He is regarded as the founder of the East Hsu faction (東許派) in Hsinchu politics. After the war he oversaw the reorganization of the Taiwan Pushcart Company (台灣軌道株式會社) into Hsinchu Bus Company (新竹客運), which he ran as general manager, and in 1957 he won election to the provincial assembly. The house has no heritage designation and remains private property, though his descendants reportedly no longer live here.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
