Established in January 1949 for 488 households of the 2nd Air Force Group in converted Japanese storehouses in Hsinchu, each home only around 20 square meters. Pilots and their families also occupied the buildings of the Lakeside Ryōtei in nearby Hsinchu Park (新竹公園). Unlike the government-led redevelopment of other villages in the city, some residents here partnered with private builders and, with defence ministry approval, rebuilt the village as more modern apartments from 1985 to 1987.
