The world headquarters of Maitreya Great Tao (彌勒大道), a new religious movement led by Providence Maitreya Buddha Institute (天恩彌勒佛院), located on the shores of Emei Lake (峨眉湖), which is also known as Dapu Reservoir. The complex features an enormous Maitreya Bronze Statue (彌勒大佛), claimed to be the world’s tallest at 72 meters. The statue, completed in 2006, uses 1,500 tons of steel and 600 tons of bronze. Access to the grounds is possible on weekends and holidays.
