Chiayi Post Office

The former first-class post office of Chiayi City, completed in September 1939 together with the neighbouring telephone exchange during the Japanese colonial era. Suzuoki Ryoichi (鈴置良一) of the Government-General designed the L-shaped reinforced concrete building in a modernist idiom, with rounded corners and strong horizontal bands. Postal counters moved to the administrative block immediately to the east in 2006, two years after the building was registered as a historic building. Renovations began in 2021, stripping off the green tile of the postal service to reveal the original façade along Wenhua Road (文化路).
