A two-storey brick-and-wood shophouse also known as the former residence of Dr. Huang Yao (黃瑤). It is located in Chiayi City along a historic stretch of Gongming Road (公明路) nicknamed Physician Street (醫師街) for its many medical practices. The building dates to 1930 and was purchased in 1946 by Huang and his wife Dr. Wang Duanya (王端雅), a husband-and-wife team trained in Japan who ran an obstetrics practice here for over two decades. They became known locally for forgiving the fees of impoverished patients. After Huang’s sudden death in 1969 the house was preserved by the family and in 2017 was leased to Tinaduo Coffee (提娜多咖啡), which retained the interior furnishings.
