A government-funded shrine (國幣小社) established in October 1915 in Chiayi Park (嘉義公園) originally named Kagi-jinja in Japanese. This was one of the highest-ranked Shinto shrines in Taiwan. After the war the site was converted into a Martyrs’ Shrine. The original shrine buildings were destroyed by fire in 1994, but several relics remain, including stone lanterns, the temizuya or chōzuya (手水舎), a ritual purification pavilion, and the former shrine office building, now repurposed as the Shih Cheng Museum of History (史蹟資料館).
