Taipei Tongshuai Theater

Tongshuai Theater (統帥戲院), officially Marshal Theater in English, opened in 1982 on Wuchang Street near Zhonghua Road, situated between Ximending and the Taipei Main Station commercial area. It was an official venue for the prestigious Golden Horse Film Festival (金馬影展). Despite this association, the theater struggled to remain profitable—the Zhongzheng District side saw less foot traffic than the Wanhua side across Zhonghua Road—and eventually closed after hosting the 26th annual Golden Horse Film Festival in 1989. In 1992 the newly-established E.Sun Bank (玉山銀行) rented the space as their original headquarters. After E.Sun grew and relocated to Minsheng East Road, this location became the Chengzhong Branch. The sign for the theater is still faintly visible at the very top left of the building.
